What distinguishes an industry model from other business models besides its size?
Well, one thing is industry models, i.e., the automobile industry, usually are founded on new technology introductions. These are often called core or source technologies. In the automotive example this was using the internal combustion engine to build a car. Think of all the businesses that grew up around this introduction. In similar fashion the same thing has happened with the internet as whole.
Our industry model introduces both core technologies and also infrastructure changes. Often times industry models introduce new ways of doing things as well, like “the mass production process” back in the day when automobiles first were introduced. In our situation the infrastructure pieces are key change agents in the situation.Mission of the greater good
The idea behind the industry model is to couple technology with infrastructure that consists of frameworks, models, standards, to achieve a new actionable pathway. This pathway is designed to help promote the greater good by leveraging the collective knoweldge, wisdom, experience and understanding of a global population.
Is this one of the reasons you built an industry model to support it?
Yes, in fact once the goals and objectives were defined we started building this years ago, back in the mid 1990’s. Back then we envisioned a “third generation web”, which today we call web 3.0, and during this process we realized it was a far larger endeavor than an “elevator pitch” stand alone business model, or what latter became known as a “dot com” model. There are many of those within the industry model but they are all designed to work together synergistically in inter-dependent and mutually supportive roles. It is one of the reasons we didn’t release things in pieces because these synergies would have been lost.
